5.1 Point-and-Shoot Megapixel Camera
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Apr 14, 2005
The Nikon Coolpix 5200 5.1-megapixel digital camera features a 3x Nikkor optical zoom lens, 4x digital zoom, 12MB of internal memory, and a 1.5" LCD display. The 5200 is packed full of automatic features including the following 15 scene modes: Portrait, Night Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Sunset, Close Up, Museum, Beach/Snow, Fireworks Show, Black Light, Party, Copy, Dusk/Dawn, and Night Landscape. The camera's Best Shot Selector (BSS) burst mode allows users to take a series of shots, and the 5200 automatically selects the clearest one. Users can also take advantage of the 5200's PictBridge printing feature that allows printing to a compatible printer without the use of a computer. The 5200 also has video-recording capability and can record VGA videos at 30fps with audio. For its price tag and megapixel size, one would hope for a few manual features. However, the only manual control available to users is white balance. The camera also has difficulty auto-focusing in low-light conditions, and when compared to competitor models, the 1.5" screen size is a bit small. Though lacking in manual controls, the camera offers users a variety of automatic modes. Overall, the Nikon Coolpix 5200 is best suited for point-and-shoot users who are looking for a camera that will take all the guesswork out of providing clear and crisp images suitable for enlargements.
